Playa Bacocho

Bacocho

No swimmingSurf: expertsSunsetTurtlesFew people

A mile and a half of open Pacific sand: the longest beach in town and the emptiest. The surf is heavy and the current pulls, so people come here to walk, to watch the sunset and for the turtle releases.

Getting there

Ten minutes by taxi from downtown, or walking down from the Bacocho neighborhood. There are beach clubs with pools right on the sand.

Worth knowing

The turtle release happens in the late afternoon, run by conservation groups on the beach itself: ask for that day’s time, it moves with the tide.

No swimming. Rip currents (the ones pulling out to sea) cause nearly every accident. If one catches you, do not swim against it: swim sideways, parallel to the shore, until you are out. Emergency numbers →
